The staff and personnel of the National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office 02 came together in prayer to express the agency’s support in the Philippines observance of the National Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty this coming October 17, this Morning during the Monday Staff Forum.
The offered prayer recognized the worldwide situation on extreme poverty and commemorated the various initiatives of the government and the community in uplifting the lives of the poor Filipino. This also shows the move of NRO 2 to make the staff aware of the week-long event and instill the values espoused by the observance.
The National Day for Overcoming Extreme Poverty was proclaimed by former President Fidel V. Ramos on October 4, 1993 in response to the UN resolution declaring October 17 as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo also proclaimed the National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty on October 17-23. This years theme is Working towards a World without Discrimination. Building on the experience and knowledge of people in extreme poverty.
This move demonstrates the appreciation to the non-government organizations, local government units and other institutions that are active in providing concrete activities to eradicate extreme poverty, wherein poverty was regarded as violations to human rights.
